Its melting point at 976. It can be dissolved in water. Alkaline, insoluble in water and insoluble with ethanol. Acids decompose and produce silicic acids gel. It absorbs water in the atmosphere and deliquesces. 2 K2Si2O5=214.37. Colorless rhombic crystalline. The melting point is 1015 +-10 and the relative density is 2.556 (25/4). 3 K2Si4O9 *H2O=352.56, white homobic crystal. The relative density of the crystal is 2.41. The temperature at which it can be broken down to 400 is sufficient. It dissolves in water, but is insoluble when ethanol. By heating potassium hydroxide and potassium carbonate at high heat, it can be prepared. It has strong alkaline reactions and is hygroscopic. Potassium Silicate can be easily decomposed and precipitated in acidic environments. Potassium Silicate is used in the manufacture of welding electrodes.
