The molecular structure of the ternary MoAlB SCs is investigated using a combination of X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDS). Selected area diffraction patterns along the zone axis of these crystals show that the Al and Mo atoms are evenly distributed in the MoAlB crystals. Furthermore, high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM) and EDS elemental mapping images of the crystals display a good correlation between the structural analysis and the observed morphology.
